FireFox vs. IceWeasel – Yet Another Open Source Disaster
Friends, as you know we’ve discussed the threat posed to corporate copyright by the defeatist copyleft ‘linux’ community. There’s been a lot of talk from the Chinese communist ‘open source’ thugs stating that Microsoft’s excellent range of products are losing ground, and that Linux’s time has come. Yet what the copyleft commies fail to point out is there’s a rebellion going on: I’m talking about the battle that recently erupted between FireFox and the new copyleft browser, IceWeasel.
Browser Wars: The Browser wars are back, but not the way the linux garage-hacker weinies want it to be: IceWeasel has started tearing into the linux flagship software browser FireFox, adding many new features and eating-up market share. It is only a matter of time before FireFox collapses from the damage it has taken.
FireFox proponents are constantly boasting about how being an ‘open source’ product it can include all kinds of features that a ‘closed’ proprietary browser like Microsoft’s amazing Internet Explorer cannot do. Yet a close examination shows that IceWeasel has completely caught up to FireFox in functionality: it has similar support for plug-ins, almost identical support for xml and css standards, java and javascript, and more. Even the buttons, tabs, and entire outline are the same. IceWeasel might as well be FireFox, it’s that advanced! Add to that IceWeasel’s secret weapon: Debian linux, an entire operating system built just to run IceWeasel. While nowhere near as capable as Windows Vista running Internet Explorer, IceWeasel ‘gets it’, they’ve custom-built a browser and operating system and meshed them perfectly together. Predictably Debian cannot do anything else except run IceWeasel in our tests. And Debian can only run IceWeasel badly. But they’re on the right path.
Sex Sells: As usual the linux gangsters had to resort to using sex as a sales tool, by getting these popular scandinavian twins to model the IceWeasel and FireFox logos. What they didn’t tell you is that the women who modeled were paid using free Ubuntu CDs and became so enraged they sued to get their pay back. Yet another reason to avoid ‘free’ software!
As Christians it is never acceptable for us to applaud other people’s misery. But this is one time we can take pride: IceWeasel is tearing FireFox’s heart out, battling tooth and nail for the tiny market share the ‘open source’ browsers have. In the end, it will be exactly as Microsoft’s management planned all along, both FireFox and IceWeasel will have ripped themselves to pieces, leaving Internet Explorer the only real browser left. Once again Microsoft’s sales-driven copyright strategy will have emerged victorious, another victory over a hacker-done copyleft-communist ‘linux’ browser.

Thanks so much for your informative article.
In the end people will realize that there is no worth in products that are “free”. Microsoft invented the browswer and they still have the best product: The Internet Explorer, bundled with the most superior operating system there is: Windows Vista.

LOL. Firefox and Iceweasel are exactly the same thing with differrent names. And despite that little rumbling, Mozilla and Debian are still getting along pretty well. Oh, and Firefox collapsing? LMAO. Protip: They don´t need paying customers or market shares, it´s open source.

Hello! Open source! It literally can´t be killed by losing market shares. That´s why the entire model is able to compete against a monopol in the first place.

False. Tim Berners-Lee, who invented the World Wide Web together with Robert Cailliau, built the first working prototype in late 1990 and early 1991. That first prototype consisted of a web browser for the NeXTStep operating system. This first web browser, which was named “WorldWideWeb,” had a graphical user interface and would be recognizable to most people today as a web browser.
That was years before Microsoft was even founded.

well, as many people said here, IceWeasel IS FireFox, they just changed the name and some features because of the difference of their policyes.
And bout Debian, that Operating System has more than 10 years, how the fuck was supposed to be built FOR iceweasel?
That doesn’t make sense: we know from years ago when Microsoft integrated it’s browser and desktop together, that it was essential this be done. The courts ruled it was perfectly fair. So there’s no way to build an ‘operating system’ without a browser being built first: Microsoft’s shown that, and it’s just the plain truth.

Operating systems existed before the internet you are aware. They were fully functional and everything. Browsers are added to the operating system,not the other way around. I though Christians love free stuff. It means people who have no money can have access to everything that they need. IceWeasel is dead.
It’s called IceCat and that change was announced in 2007, It is ported from firefox 2. It does not compete with the current firefox browser 3.

Is there no end? Microsoft does not invent very much. IBM does. Microsoft purchases smaller companies that have already invented something, or just copies them.
Actually there were around 10 browsers created BEFORE microsoft ever released version 1 of IE (did anyone ever use IE version 1 or 2 for that matter? They were truly bad browsers.)
This reference doesn’t even include the early work by Tim Berners-Lee’s which preceded even lynx (which is an excellent command line text based browser still available and works great)

Why you seem to be so offended by open-source software is a mystery to me, I prefer windows 7 over Linux… however I find that mozilla is more user friendly and better protected than internet explorer, the fact that it’s free has never bothered me. I run a combination of Linux and Windows in the office. Both have strengths and weaknesses. The linux server is stable and secure. It only gets rebooted when we go on vacations. The vista laptop will run anything and (despite vista’s foibles) is stable and fast. I don’t want Linux on the laptop or microsoft on the server. This combination works quite well.
The only absolute statement I make is: Absolute statements are for stupid people, as is evidenced by this ‘article’.

IceWeasel IS firefox. The only thing that’s different is the artwork. The reason being that the Debian development philosophy requires all included software to be licensed using the BSD or the GPL license. Firefox’s artwork is copyrighted by Mozilla, which violates this philosophy. So they replaced the copyrighted artwork with free artwork, rename it IceWeasel, and package it along with Debian.

I’ve never even heard of Ice-Weasel until now. Could you possibly be trying to…promote open-source software? But that would be…c-cc-c-c…COMMUNIST!! Ah, it hurt to say that word (not really).
Oh, and by that guy up there–sharing and community is in fact the basis of communism, just not Sovietism. People often confuse the two. And yes, churches are communist. It’s one of the few things I like about them.
Chuck Roast: It is completely possible to build an Operating system without a web-browser, but it would be near pointless in today’s world.
Oh, and Firefox isn’t going to ‘die’ any time soon. Mozilla isn’t just an open-source browser creator, it is also a non-profit organization with many other projects. And as long as someone has it, even is the Mozilla Foundation somehow collapsed, someone would bring it back. Even if it was me, someone would do it, or it would live on in programs such as Ice-Weasel. This is the reason it is open source. People can do whatever they want with it, improve it in any way they see fit, create their own programs to go with it…This is why Firefox isn’t going to ‘die; any time soon. Because it will always be there, either physically or in belief, that people don’t have to succumb to the norm or the established order.
We’re not going anywhere. And there’s nothing you, your party, or even your church can do about it
