Microsoft’s software integrates with other Microsoft software really well. The problem is that if you want to develop a piece of software that, for example hooks in to Windows the way another piece of Microsoft software does, you’re SOL. You have to reverse engineer how the other piece of MS software hooks in and then hope you can get your program to do the same thing. Like SAMBA.

“Why not just use the Microsoft software to do it?” Maybe you don’t like the interface. Maybe it interferes with another piece of software you’re running. Maybe you don’t want to pay the extra license fees for that extra piece of software. In any case, that’s not the important question. The important question is “Why can’t we do it?”

“Well if there were a business need for this sort of thing, Microsoft would include it.” Another argument I hear, which is completely fallacious. Monopolies don’t work this way. Another example to look at is the Open Document Format which has been made popular by Open Office. (Software from Sun you don’t have to pay for.)

ODF started becoming popular and people started asking Microsoft when MS Office would support it. Obviously there was a business need for it. In stead of supporting it, Microsoft undermined the Industry Standards Organization and fast tracked their own, wretchedly horrible Office Open XML format. THAT’S how monopolies work.

and the thing about gpl spreading to data stored in gpl software thats a gag to sins the license only covers the sourcecode and not the input to the program. if that ware true microsoft would own any thing you produced in Word or powerpoint or wat not.

sins I know the article was a joke i’m not going to correct all the tactical faults and misstyps sins couse it loses it’s comedic value then. but you could at least have posted a bluescreen regarding an SQL error (no matter if it were oracle, mySQL or MS-Sql it would still have looked more serious)

Actually if you look at the some of the more serious problems of the world I honestly think it makes you a bad person to even ask God to waste his time on Linux.
