So what you are saying, all of you, is that he was wrong because of who he was. Disgraceful!!! How could you put down the writings of such a great author in our history, that introduced so much to the American language to make it how it is now.

If you truly believe in God and the Christian beliefs you would know that God accepts everyone for the way they are and doesn't matter as long as you do good in his name and follow his rules. All I have to say for this article is how hypocritical can you get?!

There is a time when everyone thinks wrongly about something but all will come to rest in the end. This is where sometimes where the view of another is helpful and trust me, this is where it must stop. If you look at the method of writing which is all that schools teach about you would see that beneath the surface is an amazing variety to everything he uses form irony and tensions to his connotative ideas. There is something to be appreciated here that this man could write so many sonnets with such ease and make them logical.

Can you do that? Mhmm thought so.

You stab at him because you do not understand. Yes Shakespeare was gay, no that does not mean he is anything less for it. Should I point out the abuse gay people get now adays just for being who they are. SHAMEFUL!!! This hatered has got to stop and that includes with backstabbing articles like this. You believe yourself to be a higher mind because you read something and it translated all the perverted things the Bard's works COULD be taken as. But if you opened your minds and looked at his writing for how it is SUPPOSED to be taken, you would see intelligence far beyond normality and a man that has made works so great it is scientifically proven to make a mind work harder to interperet the deeper meaning and depth his work has.

Maybe you will read this and be appalled or maybe it will change your mind but I will tell you one thing that you will never sway my opinion in; God will love everyone for who they are and no PERSON should ever change that. EVER.

this is stupid. you understand shakespear you have to realize he speaks mostly in iams & that it is hard to understand. but no no no, your taking this two far. shakespear wrote about romeo + juliet-is that a gay relation ship? NO! and also when hamlet called his mother a whore, it was because at the time he believed she had taken part in the killing of his father so she could marry his uncle. wouldnt you think ill things of your mother if she killed your father to marry your fathers brother? i think so.

Simon, get back to your Brokeback Mountian marathon.

Banning Shakespeare is so amusing you should be on The Colbert Report to present it.

Vische French Guy should read Left Behind. It is a series of 12 or 13 bookis, has 4 movies out. You'd likely find them to be well-written.

IMPEACH FRANCE'S APPLESAUCE!!!

Pericles, I agree that some Shakespeare is good & you can learn something from it. As far as revisionist history goes, I don't like politically correct lies but sometimes the official history is a pack of lies also! For example, the Confederate States didn't secede from the Union mainly or solely over slavery, but over tariffs & other issues! The "Civil" war or War Between the States was actually like the Revolutionary War! Abraham Lincoln wanted to pass a Constitutional Amendment to officially institutionalize slavery before he became President! He was a white supremacist who used the slavery issue as a propaganda ploy! The Emancipation Proclamation freed no slaves in Northern slave states & had no teeth in Confederate states that hadn't surrendered! There's more information in the books of Thomas DiLorenzo who does op-ed pieces at www.lewrockwell.com There's also the book THE SOUTH WAS RIGHT by James R.Kennedy & Walter D.Kennedy.

@sam

While it's true Polonius was portrayed as a buffoon when in public (or groups larger than 2), in private he was quite logical and well-spoken. The concept of "duality" was developed in nearly all the major characters - Hamlet played at being insane when he was clearly not. Claudius was publicly quite firm and confident, but he was an absolute nervous (haunted) wreck when in private. If you're trying to say that because Polonius was a buffoon sometimes, his (good) advice is somehow bad, I don't think you're standing on firm ground when you make such a criticism.

Personally, I like some Shakespeare - dislike other Shakespeare - however I think it's important for all of us to have a healthy respect and understanding for the work and the history. It's especially important for all those of us who cherish freedom in the United States to understand the dire stuation that peasants lived in under the feudal system. That systemic tyranny ... that individuals dealt with for hundreds of years ... helped to lay the groundwork for the American and French Revolutions, believe it or not. Shakespeare is an excellent source for some perspective on the oppression that our predecessors rebelled against.

While Kings in some areas of the world - such as King Cyrus the Great in the middle east - were quite benevolent and in favor of human rights, the European royalty of the time was considerably less advanced.

Ain't history great? (As long as you can keep the revisionists away from it.)

I'm a liberal guy but I'm not into Shakespear. We are aware of the sexual referance in his writings but his story just doesn't interest me that much. Just like with any other author out there people have likes and dislikes and Shakespear happen to be the one I dislike. Just so you know, you need to stop making generalization of people who oppose your view. It's like saying Americans are fat, anybody with dark coloured skin are terrorist, current American politics is very similar to Nazis regime in 1940s...etc.

Anyway thank you for this website. Whenever I need something truly to hate I come on to this website and I get my fix. Seriously, after reading STR.com it does make me want to become part of a terrorist group.
