I was searching for some information on some ancient Greek culture and myths and I came across this blog. I know it’s old but I still feel the need to leave my impression on what I took from this.

I am an American, I am Christian and I am gay, and I try my best to be tolerant of everyone. This garbage that gets spouted by someone who reads some books and interprets everything in the way that they want to see it. Then turn it all into some bigoted and hateful message that supposedly all the worlds worst aspects come from some ancient culture which you know very little of and have not in any way tried to understand it… well it doesn’t make me ashamed to be an American it does make me feel upset that people like you can spread your ideas like some disease to people who genuinely want to learn and better themselves with knowledge and understanding of different cultures and history.

i forgot one thing – the reason for nude males in Greek art is purely for an aesthetic reason.

The nude, as an art form, has changed dramatically over the centuries – and currently is considered female, with the viewer being male. However in ancient Greece, the male was the more appreciated form. Any ancient greek nude females are usually mythic examples or courtesans – and one of the first examples of the nude female statue was the Knidian Aphrodite!

I usually never feel the need to reply to threads such as these – finding it usually a waste of my time, however i think you caught me on a bad day!

Having read your blog – i can honestly say i feel disgusted by what you have written. And before you preach the moral high-ground – i am a Christian, a Greek, and studying a Masters in Classics – so i am quite capable of storming the gates, so to speak!

I am very, very interested as to where you get your facts, which books etc – any historian knows that crediting your information is imperative!

As a Christian, and a practising one, and a Greek i feel ashamed that you feel justified in saying such things about a country you clearly do not understand. I would like to point out that the icon you have used is a Byzantine one (wikipedia it – as i’m pretty sure thats where you get your information from)! I should also point out that Greece was the first, or one of the first, countries to spread the word of God – America did not exist!

Greece has been responsible for a great many good things – the birth of the artistic movement, carried on by the Renaissance, and highlighted by the White House itself as post classical architecture.
- a democratic system of ruling
- literacy
- numerical calculations still used today
- philosophy – many that are parallel to what the Christian fathers themselves say

The list continues – next time you decide to post something like this – think very carefully about what you write. Just because you come from America, the so-called ‘great’ nation does not give you the right to express ignorant opinions, that are hurtful and spiteful! Being Christian does not excuse you either!

So I was searching for some information on ancient greece and here i land on this strange, strange blog.

I have goto say, I dont think i have ever red so much missinformation, bigottory, ignorance and stupidity, EVER.

When I read utter waste of space like this and see other people even agreeing, I wonder what the hell is wrong with some of you americans.

Well it matters not, your a tool and the way you think, it seems to me your the kind of person that will never experience happiness in live, so much anger and missguidance, disgusting really.

There are too many inaccuracies to mention, but suffice to say the prudish attitude and censorship of the images is frankly, laughable…

The fact you have even bothered to do this with your time, is even more worrying.
