Ancient Greece : Cradle of Perversion
I’ve received a comment from one of our readers bragging about his home country Greece and teasing me to write an article about the cradle of humankind, as he called it.
I must admit I do not know much about the current situation in this country except that the people are known for their laziness and tardiness.
But of course things like the Olympic Games and the Greek mythology (Zeus, Hardes, Poseidon, Aphrodite and the likes) and philosophers like Socrates comes to my mind. But since nearly a half century vanished since I’ve had history in school I decided to visit the public library in Iowa City to freshen up my memory. What I found out is more gruesome than the deeds of Bundy and Dahmer combined.
The patriotic Greece writing me bragged about Greece being the first advanced civilization in Europe whose impact is inseparable from today’s western institutions. “The civilization of the Ancient Greeks has been immensely influential on todays language, politics, educational systems, philosophy, science, and arts”, he told me.
After reading nearly a dozen books about this era I feel well informed enough to educate you (and him) about the real ancient Greece.
It is proven that the ancient Greek were not the great philosophers, scholars and commanders everyone wants to make us believe. Far from that. They were nothing more than peverted pederasts and homosexuals. Just think of Sapphos, the worlds first known Lesbian, living on the island of Lesbos (you probably now understand where the term Lesbian derivates from, don’t you?). But it was not just Lesbians roaming the streets, no, most of the men were gay, too. Sexual intercourse between men and women existed but nearly solely for the purpose of reproduction. Only 15% of the population were heterosexual and it was common for heterosexual woman to become as many children as possible in order to help steer their society away from extinction.
The institution of pederasty was inseparable from that of organized sports. The main venue for men and boys to meet and spend time together, and for the men to educate the boys in the ‘arts’ of sexual intimacy as well as some types of sports was the gymnasium, which was preeminently the training ground for these disciplines, and one of the principal venues for pederastic relationships. In particular, the practice of exercising nude was held to be of the utmost importance in the cult of beauty and eros which permeated pederastic societies.
The relationship between a trainer and his athletes often had erotic dimensions, and the same place which served as training ground served equally for erotic dalliances, as can be seen from the many scenes of seduction and lovemaking depicting implements found at palaestras, such as sponges and strigils.
The Olympic Games were invented to give people all around Greece the possibility to gather and celebrate their perverted moral affectations. First young boys would take part in sport competitions as a kind of foreplay to what was to follow. After the tournaments everyone would gather in the arena to celebrate; drinking wine and eating masses of food which would later summit to huge public orgies.
The practice of Anal sex has been so common in Ancient Greece that the term “Greek love” was used to refer to the practice, and in modern times, “Doing it the Greek way” is sometimes used as slang for anal sex.
We also learnt that the Olympic Games have been nothing more than huge orgies so that’s what they stand for. Therefore we should boycott them!May God be with you!

Greeks were pretty screwed up. They may have been good philosophers but they were even moreso sexual perverts.
Those pictures are shocking but God bless you for covering up the parts that no Christian wants to witness. Sex organs especially in a state of enlargement should only be seen by married women as our Lord tells us. Of course in San Francisco you can see perverted things like this every day on the street. They even have a mayor there named Cavein Newsome who thinks it is okay to marry people of your own sex or even your horse. The saddest thing is that the whole country is going to become like San Francisco or Greece or certain parts of Germany if we don’t get back the election that was stolen from us. I always knew the Greeks were perverts when a Navy buddy of mine told me what Greek really meant. He thought he was going to show me but I told him “No way Jose!” but all that was before I became a Christian of course. Since I came to know Jesus I have been against the Greeks just as much as am the liberals and commies. Telly Savalas was a Greek I think and if that doesn’t show you something I don’t know what will. How you can say that Michelangelo’s David is indicent? First, it’s not from Ancient Greece, it’s from the Renaissance. The Renaissance was that period of time between Middle Age and Modern Age when there was a great developement of humanity in all fields, mainly rescueing forgotten ideas from the Ancient Greece and Rome. Religion had darked occidental thinking since Roman Empire’s fall.
If you went to Florence, in a wonderful italian region called Tuscany (look for it in a map, if you have a world map, i mean), to a museum called l’Accademia you would be surprised of how amazing it is.
I don’t know if you know that most of the Christian philosophy is mainly taken from Plato’s (if not, read Saint Augustine or most Christian philosophers who demonstrated God’s existence). Plato was Greek. The other big philosopher in history was Aristotle, and he was Greek, too.
You can’t compare ancient Greece with modern Greece. That’s completely stupid. That’s the same as if would compare USA now and five centuries ago. In fact, Ancient Greece wasn’t a country. Each city (polis) was independent from the other, and they had constant wars (don’t you know the rivalry between Athens and Spartha?). It was a common culture.
If you haven’t travelled abroad, you shouldn’t talk about subjects of which you have no idea.

For more information on the Persian and Peloponnesian wars I suggest you read Herodotus and Thucydides. They are great historians and fun to read. Try reading them in ancient Greek. I have and it is even better.

I think all of this proves that you need to go back to the library and pick up some more books. Maybe you could take some adult education classes at night, because you sound pretty incompetent and uneducated. At the very least you could open a dictionary every once in a while. I can let a misspelled word slip by, but if you are so passionate about this, you should at least be correct in your prose.
I find it hard to believe that out of the entire history of Greece you take this single aspect and blow it out of proportion. You judge it harshly, but I suspect that you didn’t pick up that many books at your good old Iowa City library. Perhaps you should go back and find some more books, or maybe you should go to a university bookstore and find some books on ancient Greece. Maybe you should take a class in ancient Greek, if you think you’re smart enough.

After reading the above “educated” article…I am Very Upset. The Olympic Games, were NOT set up as “orgies”, but as GAMES dedicated to the GOD ZEUS. IT was also a time that all the City-States made a TRUCE with each other, and all travelers were protected from attacks. Almost all City-States took part in the Olympics. Not like the Olympics that were re-started where Nations “boycotted” because a country that “attacked” another country Waaaay before the Olympics started was participating. And also the Olympics in the Ancient times were NOT Used as a Political KILING Arena as the MODERN Olympics were. I’m amazed that with all the Documentaries on TV now, you were NOT aware of this. While I do see where you are coming from with this (and I do wholeheartedly thank you for covering up the more…revealing images) I have some problems with some things you have written.
1. While I am not disagreeing with any proof you have shown about Greece (for they are for the most part true) I do NOT agree with your thesis. What you are saying is that if the Greeks were not homosexual, than there would be no homosexuality at all. In fact, you even say it downright that they are responsible for every single case. How do you know that if not the Greeks, than the Romans would have become homosexual? How can you POSSIBLY know that homosexuality would cease to exist? In fact, how can you know that homosexuality was first practiced by the Greeks? Simple; you don’t. Nobody does, and what you’re doing is very unfair.
It is common in human behavior to try and put all the blame on others, but honestly–you have absolutely no right to blame EVERY SINGLE gay/lesbian on the Greeks, with no way of telling that if not the Greeks, some other civilization would have practiced it.
2. EVEN if the Greeks WERE homosexuals, why does that make them less smart? Why does that take away from anything? Their ideas influence EVERY SINGLE idea, every single culture, INCLUDING religions such as Christianity, Judaism, and even some Hindi religions reflect Greek ancestry.
The fact is: without Greeks, there would be NO religion, NO philosophy (which the Bible is based on *coughcough*) NO reason, NO society, nothing.
So, really, what you are doing is being nothing but racist and wrong. Not to put it too harshly.
Your evidence is poor, your logic is failing, and, well…it just isn’t right. If the Greeks had orgies and such as you claim, than they did. This does NOT mean that they have no value as a race.

To all the Christians on this blog. Thanks to your writings I will never go back to church again. I can’t believe that people think they are better than everyone else. You think that the bible upholds your ideals. Where do you get off making generalizations about people, not to mention a whole country. In case you are new to the internet, I would like to explain that there are a lot of people out there that write lies (as this very blog shows). I don’t trust any christian who is not willing to listen to all the points and views on a subject. If there is one thing that I’ve learned from my grandfather, who is a preacher, it is to take in as many facts from as many different sources as possible before making your own views about something. If you believe in something, then good for you, but don’t push your narrow views on other people. Everyone should be free to make their own opinions. Every church I’ve been to wants to push their own views on you and will not allow anyone to have their own views. Jesus was big about teaching people to think for themselves. His preachings where about self understanding of God. A self relationship with God. He made sure to set in motion the idea of personal understanding. You all give Christians a bad name. Quite trying to force your narrow minded views on others. Everyone has a right to their opinions and we shouldn’t be so dogmatic in our beliefs that we can’t see the other side. If you think that taking a look at the other side of things means that you will lose your religion, then your religious ideas weren’t very sound in the first place. I don’t understand why most Christians aren’t strong enough in their beliefs that they can’t even stop and listen to another viewpoint. Most Christians just clam up and stop listening when they don’t agree with something. Jesus always made sure to listen to all points of view before speaking. One of the greatest qualities of Jesus was his ability to keep quite and listen when around others that didn’t believe in him. If you read your bible (which I suspect you don’t, you probably only read Wikipedia) you will see that Jesus didn’t say much when he was in the company of “non-believers”. Maybe more Christians should try that instead of running their mouth.

Your Judeo-Christian Old Testament God, the one who is wicked and unforgiving, whom the Jews refuse to pronounce his name goes by the title “Lord of Hosts” and “Adonai”. It is very peculiar when you consider that long ago in ancient Greece, there was only one God who held those titles- Hades, God of the Underworld. A liar. Deceitful. And the Greeks likewise would never pronounce his real name.
This brings to light what Jesus really taught. Jesus preached “The Father in Heaven” and scolded those whose “father was a liar from the beginning”. Jesus, in ancient Greek can also translate “Son of Zeus”. When reading the New Testament in those terms, it brings things into a different light. Twelve disciples? Hmmm. Is that a hint as to who he is? Turning water into wine? Virgin birth? Resurrection? These would have been very familiar to a Greek around 30AD. A person educated in Greek beliefs would have easily associated Jesus with Dionysus or even Prometheus (who Aeschylus wrote of as saying, “though they have eyes they see not, and though they have ears, they hear not” 200 years before Jesus did.)
It is blasphemy to use what is believed by millions to be an image of the Son of God in the manner that you have. It’s outrageous and more evil than the depiction of a nude man or woman. For God created us nude. But to place a picture of God on the sexual organ of a nude person is absolutely perverted, disgusting, and SINFUL!! God rebuke you!!
I would just like to point out that the statue that is so offensive “Statues like this one could be found everywhere in ancient Greece. It is one of the most beautiful and well-known works of art in Western Culture. “David” also happens to be the David in the Bible. The sculpture shows David after he slays Goliath. (Hence the sling shot) And just in case this thought hadn’t crossed your mind, David is a hero of the Old Testament; making him a Jewish and Christian figure and hero.
That being said, I would also like to point out that reading “nearly a dozen books about [ancient Greece]” does NOT make you an expert of what society was back then. I think that I would like to read these books that made you and expert.
And my last gripe would be that for someone so heavily offended by nudity (which is ridiculous) and so “christian” that you are willing to desecrate the face of Christ to cover up your own bigotry to make it seem okay. The human form is one of the most beautiful of God’s works (the one created in His image, I might add) and it is our own sinful nature that brings the ignorance that goes along with the sensitivity. Also, Greeks did not go from being Greek to Christian. There was a great span of time called THE ROMAN EMPIRE. You know, that things after the Greeks and Before Modern Christianity? Because Pilot was ROMAN.

This artical is garbage, not to mention insanely unprofessional and mediocre (where are your sources? Or was this pulled out of thin air to match your dictinct views of other countries outside of the United States?).
Humans evolved in a series of steps (Ardipithicus, so on, so forth) and thus retained animal instincts. To be perverted is just like any other animals: homosexuality is practiced among sheep, rabbits, dogs, cats, et cetera. There is no way that the greeks could have influenced animals to do this, so automatically that assumption is rubbish as is with anal sex. Animals and earlier evolutions of human had invented this form of sex long before ancient Greeks. Perhaps before inspiring some horribly terrible racist facts about Greece, you should first take some steps into the psychological behaviors of animals, earlier evolutional stages of humans, and perversion in today’s society.
If we look back to earlier cultures of human, we also find that human sexuality has been tied to identity (also in psycho-sexual developments/psychology). The stone genitals being Jesus’ genitalia (though to other cultures offensive) may give people a point beyond perversion. Jesus is a symbol of manhood- rebellious, strategic, wise- and the Greek culture had always enforced emphasis on the importance of manhood. Perversion? No. Just a deeply encrypted way of beinging out their beliefs and showing the world their fond ideals.
Now, one thing you should know about the Greek culture was that yes, there was a ton of emphasis on males. Males courted one another because they believed women were intellectually below them due to their inability to control their emotions and overall symbols -to their culture – of weekness (and it was like this until the rise or women in the Enlightenment Period). The courting of young boys was a tradition that was brought down by younger cultures, and the greeks had adapted this way of life. It was natural for the master to know his student well, and not only teach him the ways of the scholars, but the way of sexual educations and simply teaching their male emphasized culture to the new generations of greeks.
It is simply that; a difference in culture. The statue of David is far from an obscene depiction, and simply a picture of a nude male, and though having feminine traits he is natural to show the contours and again, the emphasis of the male-led period of time. The statue of David is far from a picture of perversion and is more along the lines of a statue dedicated to greatness. It just happened to be nude, to show the vulnerable side of the hero as the artist was trying to capture.
As for everything else, it is ideally expressed as the culture of the times and the human belief system. Let us not forget, however, arranged marriages in the early eighteen hundreds, Christian couples who married for wealth and benefits between spouses who were ten to even twenty years apart, and the child death rate (even in Iowa) due to young children (so much as 14 years old) marrying off too soon (emphasized by the early church) and baring the elder spouses children.
Before we start to rant on other cultures and their questionable ways of life, let us not forget our OWN roots on which we were bore from. I smell the faint scent of hypocrisy, and it stinks horribly.

Just because a few books and websites were read it dose not make you a know-it-all on the subject and certainly dose not give you the right to talk about them like this. I’m currently a student studying the classics in high school, and what you wrote is just ridiculous. However, the thing that is most upsetting to me is how you labeled Michaelangelo’s David as a piece of “Greek perversion” when 1) Michaelangelo was Italian, 2) That statue was made during the Renaissance, several centuries after the fall of Ancient Greece, and, most importantly, 3) David is a sculpture of David, as in, King David from the Bible. I’m not a devout Christian or anything, but I’m pretty sure he’s important.
