Pokemon has taught me more life lessons than any bible school could ever do. What use is there in preaching Hell and Damnation, when you cannot stop people from being themselves?

Arceus teaches to love yourself and your friends, regardless of what their nature might be, or what type they are. It should not matter what generation they come from, for we are all the children of mighty Arceus!

I beseech you, ShelleyTheRepublican! Relinquish your evil ways, and turn to Arceus for guidance! Arceus will teach you to love without fear, without hate, and Arceus will be the one to truly save you from damnation, for no amount of prayer can save you from the deadliest sin of all: hatred. Put down the Bible, Shelley, and pick up the Nintendo DS and a copy of Pokemon HeartGold or SoulSilver, as those are perhaps the best place to start your journey into the world of Pokemon. Walk through Arceus’ fields with your Pokemon by your side, and learn what it truly means to love.

Perhaps then, once you have walked through the gates of Indigo Plateau, defeated the Elite Four, and conquered Red… Perhaps then you will realize that the word of Arceus is the True Word.

If you truly believe that someone must die for your sins, then I challenge you to hunt down the Legendary Beasts that roam his countryside. I challenge you to defeat them, but cast not your gaze outward. Cast your gaze inward, towards yourself, as Entei, Raicou, and Suicune teach you what it means to strive for something. Lugia or Ho-oh will challenge you to be the very best, like no one ever was! To catch them, is your real test, but to train them is your cause! You must travel across the land, searching far and wide! Each Pokemon, to understand, THE POWER THAT’S INSIDE!

But right when I saw you praising that LUNATIC Jack Thompson, I’ve come to two conclusions: You are either A: a total idiot who doesn’t understand their own religon or B: a troll.

I was recently introduced to your website http://shelleytherepublican.com/, and I have to say I am concerned that you are not an internet “troll” and do in fact believe what I can only call the ignorant hate speech that inundates said website. I realize in your country freedom of speech is the second last thing you would ever relinquish – right before guns – but there is no way that any rational, freethinking individual (and those two words probably give you night terrors) can believe or indeed write this poison. I have met someone from Arkansas, a level-headed person for whom I have great respect, and she and I had a rather stimulating talk about your history. As I am led to understand, your nation was founded on the principles of freedom from oppression and tyranny. And yet, you and your ilk seem hell-bent (if you’ll excuse the expression) of stamping out any trace of individuality and freedom that exists. President James Madison (your 4th) said that “If tyranny and oppression come to this land it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy.” It is important to note that he was a strong proponent for a person’s right to bear arms and of keeping a strong military presence. He also said “Religious bondage shackles and debilitates the mind and unfits it for every noble enterprise, every expanded prospect.”Now that is not to say that religion is a bad thing, not at all. All President Madison was trying to get across is that if we stop thinking for ourselves and let our minds and hearts be run purely by dogma, a blind following of something we don’t – and indeed cannot – understand, we do ourselves a disservice. I think the most apt demonstration I have seen is the “radical right” bombing abortion clinics. I am in no way a fan of abortion, it is a terrible thing, and under most circumstances people should be made to endure the consequences of their actions. But what the – and I cannot put this any more politely – ignorant, small-minded idiots that commit the bombings seem to forget is that they are protesting the taking of lives by ending more lives than the clinic itself does. And that doesn’t even mention the families and friends that have to deal with the fact that their loved ones died for such an ignoble cause.

If there is a God and He passes judgment on us, I doubt very much that those of a different skin colour, sexual orientation, religion, or hobby are damned next to those that commit atrocities in His name. Entertain this scenario for a moment: You have a son named Billy. Billy has just started the second grade. In billy’s class there is someone who writes left-handed. Now billy in all his 7 year-old wisdom decides that since he has never seen this before, since his parents are right-handed and everyone else he has met up to this point happens to be right-handed, that this person is aberrant in some way. During recess he proceeds to beat up the left-handed child. Would you punish the child, or would the fact that he was rooting out and punishing differences in others at such an early age bring you delight?

I have a friend who is gay. He is a wonderful person and anyone who spends time in the same room as him is infected by his good humour and easy laugh. He genuinely brightens people’s days and all things considered he is a good man. However, according to you he will eternally burn in hell for the “crime” of sodomy. He is also a practicing Wiccan, this is not to say he worships Satan, that is a misconception borne of ignorance. It means he acknowledges that there is a higher power that he does not understand, but he respects the Earth and all things in it. This would seem to be another reason for you to condemn him, but his beliefs are less harmful than yours – they hurt no one! It is narrow-minded individuals such as yourself that tell a man what he can and cannot do, who he can and cannot love, that blight society. Again, that is not a shot at Christianity, merely the “raidcal right.” Those insufferable zealots who care more for millenia-old creeds and ways of thinking than for their fellow man; those who believe that freedom of thought is dangerous and that because they do not understand something it must be branded evil.

If yours is a God that preaches hatred instead of tolerance, suspicion instead of understanding, violence instead of love, ignorance instead of knowledge then He is not a God I would be caught dead praying to. If your website is any indication your God is a sadistic lunatic who gets his jollies by reveling in human suffering, setting fire to those he doesn’t like. The Christians I know worship a God who said “Love thy neighbour” and “Judge not, that you be not judged.” What perplexes me is that whenever people like you become galvanized by an issue, no matter how small, you forget that your religion was founded on the principles of love, understanding, and tolerance. To the unenlightened observer – and I claim to be no less – The deity that is as vindictive and petty as you describe is evil; a “Devil” if you will. It would surely be interesting to see someone try to defend Him.

In closing, I fully realize that for me to write this is pointless, as if you are a “troll” I’m giving you the fuel you desire, and if you actually believe the garbage you write you are too far corrupted and twisted by hatred to be changed by the words of one revolutionary. The first option is far more likely, but I would rather die on my feet than live on my knees, and if you take issue with my beliefs that is your right, and I welcome a debate. But I refuse to be chained and shackled, enslaved to an idea that tells me thinking for myself is evil.
