German violence : Brutal Assault on Ermyas M.
A brutal assault on an Ethiopian-born German citizen has shaken the city of Potsdam near Berlin and sparked a debate about xenophobic violence in Germany. But many questions surrounding the attack remain and the two suspects taken into custody have formal links to right-wing extremists.

Once again Germans attacked a black person in Potsdam near Berlin. The attackers (one of them were referring to himself as “Hitler” called the victim a “Nigger” and severely beat him. Ermyas M., an engineer have been living in Germany since 1997, is married and has two young children. Ermas M. suffers severe head injuries and is now being treated in the intensive care unit in the Potsdam hospital. The attackers took 200 Euros (about 280 US-$) from his wallet. Since this poor mans injuries were that severe that I have to assume that they wanted to kill this man. Beaten to death for 200 Euros, is that the German attitude these days?

And this is not an isolated case. Racist attacks are a daily routine in Germany. In 2004 there were 4 attacks on every 100,000 citizens and in 2005 this number grew to 7, Germany wide.
More than 100 people have been killed in racist violence in Germany since unification in 1990. The worst incidents, including the 1992 firebombing of an asylum-seekers’ hostel in the eastern port of Rostock where onlookers clapped in delight as the inhabitants struggled to flee, or the 1993 arson attack on the home of a Turkish family which killed five in the western town of Solingen, were followed by public outrage.
The agency (Bundesverfassungsschutz) said there were 10,000 right-wing extremists prepared to engage in violence in Germany in 2004, a figure that is unchanged from 2003. Source: Spiegel.de

We have freedom of speach. The German government tries to combat Neo-Nazism, but the German people got screwed over several times by the USA in the last hundred years. No wonder they ended up with some people who have a dislike for foreigners, after much of their land was annexed, their country broken up, many of their people subjugated and put under appalling conditions, and blamed for all of the world’s problems by arrogent Americans.
America is responsible for many of the world’s problems. Your isolationism when it suits you, and initiating wars when it doesn’t, are very contradictory policies.

That was a shocking incident, indeed. East Germany has had a Problem with Neonazis since the reunification, which is often blamed on the inability of the people to live in a democracy (something east Germans havent had before 1990, if you don’t count the Weimar Republic of the early 20th century, which didn’t work out well). Please stop trying to make all of my country look like that, we’re way more sensitive to such incidents than any other country, due to our history.
But the thing is, there’re extreme right wing parties and people in every European country (German “NPD”, French “Front National”, Belgian “Vlaams Blok”, J?rg Haider in Austria to name a few). They’re people who use blunt accusations against people who are different (especially foreigners), and their clientele are usually unemployed people of low education.
People like that also exist in the US, there they’re called the “Bible Belt”. People with a puritan mentality and blind hatred towards anything different.
So before you blame an entire nation for one incident (which is one too much), ask yourself why hate crimes happen in the US all the time and hardly make the news. At least we take things like that seriously. I guess black people are “brothers” to you if they live abroad, but “parasites” if they live in the US (see the FEMA comments).

The majority of Neo-Nazis lives in Eastern Germany. If you ask me Germany should be divided into two states again. I do not know where Hans and Elfriede are from but the type of German you describe exists in Eastern Germany. Eastern Germans are dumb, lazy and cadgers. I have to comment my last posting, and with a bit of apologizes. If it was not allowed to point out racism in other countries, before one’s own country is clean, nobody would be able to speak about it. There are racists and nazi’s in my country, Finland as well. Roosevelt wanted America to join the Second World War and used Pearl Harbour to achieve it. At least that?s what I was told, in Pearl Harbour and about 2400 Americans died for this cause.
Regarding your comments about Militant Germans, tell me a Country that Britain has not gone to War against. Ask the Arab?s, African?s Irish, Indian?s (not American Indian?s), even the French what they feel about the British Empire. But we can also discuss how much torturing, rape and pillaging can be accounted to the Vatican, during the Spanish Inquisition or the Roman Empire and Napoleon.

i truly have to admit that the germans committed the most horrible and violent crimes during the the world wars, and i?m totally aware of the cruelty of the third Reich. What happenend at that time was a terrible event for all mankind.
but i?m shocked that there are still people today who dindn?t notice that germany has changed and even see us as a nation that struggles for world domination. I have to admit that there are still nazis in our country. but we are not the only country, there are racists in every country all over the world and in america, too. Have you thought of how america treated the black people in the 40s and 50s? If there hadn?t been people like martin luther king or rosa parks, i think your country would still treat them this way today.
before you start to critizise other nations, you should think of your own. The death penalty for example is a hint for the (i?m sorry i have to call it this way) moral primitiveness of the USA. I know that there are only a few states who still execute the death penalty, but it doesn?t really matter if there is one or a hundred states. In my opinion only god has to judge about ending a life.
think of your own history: america is the country that fights the most wars!!! the corean war, the vietnam war, the Iraq war in the early 90es and not to mention the latest war in the iraq. Now that?s a struggle for world domination to me!

As I sit in my chair, I must inquirer, why do you have such a problem with Germans? By reading this article, learned two things from you immediently. First, you are ignorant. You have no tolerance for other cultures what so ever. Second, you are not well educated. You lack knowledge of what really happened during WWII. It is truely amazing how those go hand in hand.
So, maybe there exists still a partie, which has nationalsocialistic thoughts. But in America there are more Neo-Nazis than in Germany and I don’t mean from the number (because the US have more habitants than Germany) but the per cent number is also bigger.

dear shelley, you can’t just generalize like that. see, reading your articles i’ve come to the conclusion that you tend to pick out all the bad things about other countries and ignore the faults of the US, magnifying its virtues instead (if thats what they are). this habit seems to distort your world view quite a bit. the rest of the world certainly has a lot to offer, and the US definitely has its bad side too. now, if you could try and think outside of your awfully small box for a minute, you’d see that your story is very one-sided.

As soon as the Cold War started the Allies stopped with the de-Nazification and the punishment of Nazi-(War-)Criminals. In the Cold War the Ex-Nazis were a great help for both sides. After the reunification and the end of the Cold War we are facing the dilemma: Nazism is still there but now it is too late for the Allies to act.
The reality today in Germany – I know ’cause I live there – is quiet complex: If you are a migrant or a jew you are always aware of Nazism. You know that you need to be cautious when you go home late. You know how contemptuously the Germans look at you every day.
