I do like the way you have framed this specific problem and it does indeed offer me a lot of fodder for consideration. Nonetheless, coming from everything that I have witnessed, I only wish as the actual commentary stack on that folks continue to be on issue and not start on a tirade regarding some other news du jour. Still, thank you for this outstanding point and though I do not really concur with the idea in totality, I respect the standpoint.

Give me a break.. First go and find out what all in Windows is true innovation and not stolen from somewhere else.. (by the M$ definition of stealing software, of course) Wish you all the best.. If you do your homework well, i think you’re going to be deeply disappointed.

first and foremost, there is a reason that you are writing articles and not working in the tech industry… I don’t care how good you did in school… I as a tech must say, I just can’t fix stupid. did you not open google before deciding on what version of linux to try, or did you use those tech skillz. Nice. And criticizing text based installs? you weren’t a tech… I think your full of it, windows is built on text based operations, and with any technical knowledge you would know that. and the whole idea of installing windows 2003, gj… install a server? just goes to show your technical knowledge on the topic. and an AMD vs Intel come off it. So asides from not knowing anything about software/operating systems or hardware? how do you feel you are qualified to write about this? the first post to this ridiculous article about sums it up… you shouldn’t be using a computer period, excellent job.

P.S. I particularly liked the point that you installed Bonsai Buddy… lmfao thats excellent.

Even though this is a year old, I see it’s still getting comments. I’ve always considered it to be a sort of Sacha Baron Cohen in cyberspace–if Borat were a techie, so to speak. As I’ve always considered Borat and Ali G a bit cruel–the whole amusement aspect is seeing how foolish people who aren’t in on the joke can be–let me make a few points, especially for those who don’t have English as their first language.

Much as we OSS folks like to think MS people are completely technically ignorant, let’s look at this. Let’s even assume that Tristan is ignorant, just as we assume that Borat (played by a somewhat religious Jew) is really anti-semitic. Tristan tries to find a copy of Linux in 2006. He finds RH 3. Where? He would have either used google or perhaps a computer store, and neither one would have RH 3 available. I believe that 5.x was from the later 1990′s, though I’m too lazy to check.

I suspect the BSD is a part of Linux and comes on tapes was simply added sarcasm. However, we’ll let that one pass–to an MS-centric person, they might think BSD is another type of Linux.

The first really obvious clue–Bonzi Buddy and Comet Cursor. The guy says that he was an admin. No admin wants Bonzi Buddy. Even the most clueless users, back in the Win9x days call the admin to say, “My friend sent me this really cute thing, but it’s becoming a pain–how do I take it off?”

If he couldn’t make it any more obvious, he mentions DRM. (Blaring horns and Monty Python Spanish Inquisition Voice)

NOBODY likes DRM. Even on a patriotic site, DRM is a perfect example of how a few people in power manage to bribe or otherwise coerce people in power to subject the average citizen to something which benefits no one but a few people who already have more money than they can spend. Basically against all the principles of the US. How the heck the RIAA has managed to get away with it so long is a mystery, though there are indications that the tide is changing.

So, for those who read this article,I think we can be pretty certain that it is satire. As for Tristan, if you see this comment, as Ali G would say, “Respect.” I think the man is brilliant. And like the humor of Ali G’s creator, the most interesting part is seeing how many people don’t see the joke.

ok first off go to youtube and check out the linux vs windows vista. it will show you how weak windows is. second why would you want an os where they have to disguise the fact that its broken with updates they dont even call them fixes or anything like that its just an update. windows breaks and is outdated in seconds. linux constantly updates itself and they are actually updates. usually just new games or a new way to make the desktop look cooler. windows is lame. convert to mandriva linux. it will save your life.
