People who know me can confirm that I am the last person that would not admit a mistake I made.
Therefore: I told you all that this website is not hosted on Linux and that was dishonest. But in my defense: I did not know any better, because my webmaster told me I was hosted on a solid Windows operating system. Now that I found out the truth I, of course, cancelled my webhosting and fired the webmaster immediately and signed up for REAL WINDOWS HOSTING! I hope you can find it in your hearts to forgive me, since many of you probably never would have visited this website if known that it was actually Linux hosted.
Just to let you know my friends, in the next days the website might be offline on an hourly basis but I am sure you might find that the website will be much better hosted in the future: Faster, more secure and first of all, I am not contributing to this strange Russian operation system called ‘Linux’.

Most linux systems today even the more poorley configurated are highly capable of producing a nicer looking windowmanager enviroment using less RAM. My workstation has an uptime of 112 days beat that…please i dare you.
Oh and make sure you get IIS since the opensource webserver APACHE is ported from linux to windows. IIS is much less secure and not as stable as apache, but as allways retards will have it there way

Shelley, Congratulations on the Windows migration. Making the switch to a premium operating system is easy, and well worth it. You are now protected from hackers and viruses.
I hear in the news that Mac OSX has many viruses; This is mainly because a Mac costs so much, people cannot afford to buy Norton Personal Firewall & Antivirus.
People try to hack Mac & Linux computers all the time. Did you know they are still based on decades old UNIX technology.
Here are my tips to avoid hackers:
* Use Windows - it’s a 100% American product backed up by a trustworthy company. Make sure you use “Windows Update” (note there is no equivalent of Windows Update for Mac and Lunix)
* Use a firwall. You can buy one from Norton or use the one built into Windows XP.
* Use an antivirus; Once again Norton Symantec make a great one, for Windows only.
* Finally, trust in God and keep praying. God will look after your family and your computer.

I will make this simple point. Linux is opensource for a reason. Any security firm, or anyone for that matter that is familiar with the language, can look over the source for malicious code…. The sourcecode is completely open… nothing is hidden. Which is in stark contrast to windows/IIS, where serious problems lurk in the code, and no one knows anything about it till a malicious virus is written to exploit it.

Aditionally, you shouldn’t use windows: the desktop metaphor was developped by apple, too.

I just say one word: Spyware. Its even included WITH Windows XP on the cd when purchased. Firefox has alot more features and better use of standards then Internet Explorer (which seems to attract more popups and spyware then the whole non-windows commumity together).
I never use IE since Firefox has run past IE alot and shows pages alot more efficient and faster. Windows IS still used since I play games alot and linux is not good on that front…yet. Perhaps in the future, prolly not.
Apart from BonziBuddy being the last thing i would run on my machine, I don’t know any operating system which is more unstable than windows. Windows slows down it’s performance when not permanently being used, while Mac runs stable. That is why Mac’s have been preferred for audio/video editing for many, many years.
But ok, if Shelly says so, the whole world might be completely wrong.

5) Mac OS X was the first OS-pack that was available as retail that passed the Acid2 test… http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acid2 Microsoft Internet Explorer does not even have a alpha version that passes it. Go security.
6) I don’t understand why you buy products depending on if they give money to such and such a political party. Perhaps you’d be better off attempting to select the proper candidate rather than voting for someone because such and such a company gives them money, and the same the other way round, because they are in conflict with the basic elements of democracy and free market… not that that seems to bother you much.

I was very dissapointed to not be able to comment on your remarquable essays, dispite having read it along with all the comments they had.
However, for someone who is “exceptionnally” qualified, you seem to lack IT knowledge that I, dispite having no recognition from any corporation, know.
RedHat Linux Build 3.0.3 (Code Picasso) was released in 1996. Yep. So if you want to compare equal products, then compare it with Windows 1995… also availible in almost every retailer in my country (alas, I do not have to live in the US along with you…). I am also dissapointed that you ignore that the RedHat Linux series was stopped by RedHat corporation after the release of RedHat Linux 9 (Code Shrike). And that was in 2003. Since then, RedHat have released the Feodora Code series, and are currently at installment 5, code Bordeaux.
So, as you seem to be extremely hyped up with IT, I guess you’ll know that your test setup was completely stupid. Windows XP does not currently support 64-bit processing (Albit the 2005 Professional XP 64-bit version that you weren’t using, because you used the 2003 build). So where’s the point in installing the basic Windows XP on an Athlon XP 64-bit? On the other hand, installing Linux on a basic P4+htd was perhaps not such a stupid thing… However, since you were using a 16-bit build of Linux, I’d rather think you were completely oblivious and just wallowed through Dell to find a computer that looked nice, and then asked them to power up WinXP on one, and leave the other OS-less…
Then, you criticize Linux 3 for being on floppys… well, I don’t know where you were in 1998, but I recieved floppys for Microsoft 1998, and I also recieved 5 backup floppys for WinME… So I guess that for a build made in 1996, it’s quite logical that they didn’t include DVD support (as it wasn’t invented), but that’s not a problem, since WinXP2003 is not on a DVD either…
However, you managed to install RedHat Linux 3. Well done. Have a cookie. Wait. Have a second cookie. Want to know something amazing? Well, with Win98, you can’t control your fan speed, nor monitor your core temp, nor check your RAM load, or anthing like that… and yet you managed to open up two windows that give all that information on a Linux 3 that was completed in 1996. Well done! I guess you’re not that bad after all! Or perhaps Linux is just so more effective that they were better in 1996 than Windows ME or Windows 2000…
As for Linux not having a built-in webbrowser… Well, kudos to them for having one in their latest build, Feoroda Core 5 : Firefox. Or should I say “Mozilla Firefox”, since you mistake Netscape Navigator (made by America OnLine) and Firefox (made by Mozilla Foundation). Indeed, Netscape is ‘based’ on Firefox (alas, Firefox is a product, not a company), however, it is independent.
Then, is an extremely cunning move, you choose to download a well-known spyware device onto your computer. Holy macaroni! That must be the doing of a great IT person! Apart from the fact that it expoits over 40 security flaws, it must be great for procudtivity to have some kind of purple ape hand around the screen and “tell jokes”, “access your e-mail” and “alert you”… Also, did it not occur to you that the ‘extra installs’ were generally both time-consuming, resource-consuming and overall annoying? It did to me.
Again, you compare the 2003 experience of windows with the 1996 experience of Linux. If you really want to get to grips with your “test”, then install Win95, and attempt (yes, attempt, for you shall fail) to manage to do anything. Access the internet? Nope. Internet Explorer 2.0 (first build) only came out in 1996, and was availible as a OEM service pack. From there on, if you’re not familiar with DOS prompts, you’ll be curing moon-speak for the rest of your life.
The ‘ease of use of IE’? Wow. You must seriously be crazy. Say what, just go onto the sites of the 20 biggest petrol companies in the US. How many pop-ups did you get? I’d say between 10 and 30, depending on how long you’ve been browsing. Guess what? Mozilla Firefox (bundled with RedHat Feodora since 2001) has an internal popup blocker… and when I did the test, I recieved 0 pop-ups.
After you have posted a nice fractal image, however, you ruined it by demonstrating once again that you are completely IT-unsaavy, and should have your “diploma” burnt, immediately. IRC was common back in 1996-1997 as a mean of support… Even Microsoft had IRC channels. So, unless Microsoft didn’t have offices, immigration visas or any of the other things you jibe at, you’re pretty clueless.
However, you did make a almost funny joke, or at least I hope it was a joke. Of course, almost everybody in 1996 who had a cmoputer knew how to use DOS prompts (logical evolution from MS-DOS), and had basic knowledge in other programming languages… But perhaps you didn’t realise that.
To conclude, you say some trash about Google and IBM not having to do anything with this ‘trash’. Well, sorry, but facts are agsint you. However, being a apparently hardcore christian, you must be used to denying evidences. IBM make computers, and you can put any OS on it. Seen that you’re supposedly tech-saavy, I’d have though you would know the subtle difference between the manufacturer and the OS provider of a computer. Also, you say that DRM is not applied on Linux. Well, do you know what? DRM is ILLEGAL in France. As such, Microsoft have DISABLED DRM for the French Edition of Windows XP. And here’s the really bad bit… French Edition Windows XP can be booted in English(US)… So there you have it. A Microsoft product where you can easily rip DVDs, bypass DRM and juggle with music and video rights. Linux has many cores that disregard DRM (please note that DRM is not obligatory in any country in the world, and is still only suggested for use by Microsoft…), but Linux also has some that do respect DRM…
And just a small word about the other essay : millitary installments run on completely different OSes from personal or professional computers. American RADAR company Raytheon Systems (all sales they make are approved by the American Secretary of Defence) has a native R14B-2 OS installed on all their latest-gen RADARs. And I can assure you, from having talked to people that participated in the code of R14B-2 that R14B-2 would require more computer power to hack than there is in the USA. Military cores are generally very secret, and vary very often, sometimes being specific to each development project they are associated to.

I’ve briefly read over a few of your hate articals (come on how much is bill paying you?) with regards to the linux kernel. First of all you seem to be miss-understanding linux. Linux is a kernel, it provides an abstraction layer that allows programs to run on a machine. It is not it’s job to provide you with a mail client or AV software or anything else. Operating systems like RedHat/SuSe etc. provide a linux kernel and a GNU userland, being all your mail clients, CAD software or whatever you run.
With regards to your comment about the lack of anti-virus/spyware, there is no current need for such software, almost 99.99% of the viruses and spyware in current circulation are intended for windows only. It is not possible for them to run on a linux machine unless you try and run some sort of emulation software.

By the way, if you really want to escape Linux, you really need to leave the Internet. The backbone of the internet (if there is one) are the DNS servers. The core group of them are all running Linux. Basically the DNS server converts you website name (http://www.shelleytherepublican.com/) into a IP address so other computers can connect to your server.
I also say I support your article about 25%. I am sitting on my Windows XP machine right now, and my computers at home are all XP also. But, it is extremly expensive to pay all the licenses for Windows. I believe that Linux will start to dissapear more once this monopoly named Microsoft disappears.
Ex. Most people own at least one computer now on average. There are roughly 80 million families in the US. The going price for XP is now $85 (Home, Newegg) . That means Microsoft made $6.8 billion dollars on Windows products in the US. Also, Windows is in 31 languages in over 100 nations. You do the math. Then, think about work. How many computers have Office installed. The student and teacher version is $129, the standard version is $299. As you can see, costs rise extremly with Windows products. That is why many companies are switching to Linux. If you can get the same functionality with a Linux computer as you can with a Windows, then why pay more?
Again, I will say that Microsoft’s software isn’t totally bad either. I think they did a incredible job with XP making it simple enough for grandma to use, but powerfull enough for high end computing.
Linux is not evil, it is not Liberal, and it is not worse than Windows.
It works just as well as Windows for web hosting, and usually better, in fact. It’s nothing to be ashamed of.
It wasn’t created by “European Hackers,” but by thousands of real programmers all over the world! It was an amazing triumph of the Internet that people created a working Operating System without ever even meeting each other. And it isn’t unamerican or communist at all, it’s just a group of people nice enough to give a little of their time for the good of everyone else. It’s more like community service for computers. That’s what Open Source is all about.
If you want to try a real Linux system, you can’t use something that’s 10 years old. Try Ubuntu or Debian, with the Gnome desktop environment.
The point is, this extremism isn’t warranted, and you shouldn’t be so worried. Linux isn’t hurting anyone, only helping people for free, and it’s mostly American values helping American people and businesses. Don’t be ashamed of using Linux, be proud. :)

ok, enough history, the reason why I write this:
Linux is not bad!
I’am a physicist, and in science Linux is one essential tool! Nearly every scientific programm is running on linux.
and: as a physicist I have to write my own calculation, modelling and simulation tools every day, because there is no Company who sells software for simulation Quark-Gluonen-Plasma, Gravitation-Theories or things like that. And those tools we need can be written on linux, just the way we want it. Under Windwos it is also possible, but so much harder. You know why? First: linux is free (but thats not the point). The thing is, that Linux is completly ‘open source’ so we can modify it just the way we need it. I don’t mean changing the wallpaper! It’s rewriting party of the OS optimizing it for speacial hardware (like detectors for particle accelerator). It’s nearly impossible to do that on Windows, because you are not allowed to modify windows, and there are no particle accelerator-detector-drivers out there. Windows is not a bad Operating-System at all, no, but it is usless for us. Also Windows needs to much resources, most of the time we don’t need the colorful GUI, we need the Ram and the whole calculation-power. So we take Linux, it’s just what we want. So, please don’t say it’s evil!
By the way: did you know, that the NSA (National Security Agency) has developed a own Version of Linux, which is optimized for security, because Windows OS does not satisfy the security directives of the NSA? If you don’t belive it, take a look on their webiste::

Well done, your test. I remember trying my first Linux distros, I think in 1997, it was Red Hat 4.01, Slackware 3.3. (I hope my memory is correct). At that time, Linux was for servers, because it lacked basic software for everyday use.
Now I use only Linux, Suse 10 (it could be Ubuntu, Fedora, Mandriva or any other distribution) at home on my four computers (including a Centrino laptop). My personnal network, a mix of cable and wireless, two printers on a wi-fi print server, external hard drives, scanners… My graphic interface : KDE 3.5. Works a lot better than this poor XP. I can even access to your Microsoft Network, with aMSN, a good clone of your MSN client.
Worse, I listen radio/TV on the Internet, without the hassles of pop-ups, with a script I wrote that connects to my favorite multimedia streams.
Even worse, my music player, Amarok, is much better than your Windows Media Player. The disc cover is automatically retrieved from Amazon, I read lyric of the songs, bio of the artist, thank to Wikipedia (another communist project, I suppose).

linus Torvalds came in contact with an american (Richard M Stallman) who had already started developing free opensource programs like for instence Gnu c compiler (GCC), binutils, tar, grep Gzip and the text compiler emacs under the GNU (gnu not unix)license (Infact this american inwented the idea of opensource so there is nothing unameriv?an at all with it.)
These programs that later became a part of what we today think of as standard programs in any GNU/linux distribution and BSD distributions where infact al developed years before Linus Torvalds came up with the idea to make an kernel.
A kernel is an importent part of an operatingsystem and all modern operatingsystems have one. In windows XP, 2003 server and windows 2000 the kernel is kalled NT and on Mac OSX its kalled BSD (witch stands for Berkley Software Distribution)(also american)

I got 4 computers at home. 2 Windows (Going to change that soon) 1 Linux and 1 Mac.
Ehm, one of my windows computers is a Dell and the otherone is custobuilt by me.
The “American” Dell is the slowest and the one that i got most problem with.
My Mac, Got nothing to say. Its just to stable and yeah, 50 days of uptime and rising.
My Linux server. Reinstalled (New Hardware) it for around 30 days ago, Not a single reboot since then.
And my “Gaming Station” The other Windows comp i got. Well, i dont got a problem with this one. Just that its get unstable after 2 - 3 weeks of uptime.
The most unstable computers i got in my home got Windows XP at main Operativ System..

You may have moved your site to a Windows server (good luck with that security thing), but according to the bottom of your pages, your site is using WordPress software. WordPress is a free, open-source product, just like Linux. Therefore, you still have some migration to do if you want to get away from the “communist” software. Be sure to pay top-dollar for it, because you will have a hard time finding a good, inexpensive software package that does as well as WordPress. And don’t forget, you have to keep up the economy, after all.
Personally, I will never buy Microsoft again, but if you are so adamant about it, have fun wasting your money.
