As Jesus himself, I'd just like to say that I find this article offensive and demeaning.
My father, God (I daresay you have heard of him), reads me a couple pages of this magnificent series every night before I go to bed.

Its not an evil book, its a magical story filled with exciting plots with countless twists and turns, as well as plenty of humour. In other words - its pure genius.

If you assholes continue to ..what the word that the youngsters use today.. ah yes, 'dis'. If you assholes continue to 'dis' Harry Potter, I will make sure my father hears about it, and he will make TERRIBLE THINGS happen! Oooooh, scary!

LOL jks, I cant do that cause he doesnt exist! And either do I! Never have never will!

Sincerely,
Jesus.

(Or not really, cause we just established that I don't exist.)

I believe that if a child has a choice to read the bible or not, then they have a choice to read something about the " occult. " I have read several of the harry potter books and if you have read them in depth, not skimmed and made up some preconceived notion about them, you'd understand that these relate nothing to the devil. Although they talk about wizardry and sorcery, there is not mention of the devil and hell. We don't like in the 17th century where there were witch hunts and odd notions the devil is behind all that is evil. If you take away these books, you might as well take away television and all technology from these kids also, because who knows, maybe the devil is behind technological innovations also.

Excuse me, um, Shelley?
I'M FROM BRITAIN!
I mean, I knew that some Americans are weird, but, aha, this? This is total rubbish. I've seen things in the BIN worse than this stuff.
#1: Harry Potter (as above) teaches children about LOVE and FRIENDSHIP; probably unlike you. It disgusts me that certain people like you have the nerve to act as if Harry Potter is whispering to children and adults 'Come, join us, join us!' Actually, I'm describing the Republican Party here.
But anyway, Harry Potter gives children a world to communicate to: they feel like they're bored, so they read this fantasy that is realistic. They don't think 'Oh my god, this is my religion!' they just think 'Oh, that bit is like the time I...' They can relate to the characters who have soul and emotion.
#2: You are twisting everything out of proportion. Yes, Harry has magic. So what? So do a lot of books, including ones written by (dundundun!) Christians! So lay of the occultist theory, it makes me laugh.
Some of the people here are Satanists (sorry) and Goths (sorry), and they didn't become so reading this book.
#3: I am around the same age as the Atlantan kid, and I laugh at his story. He sounds really really stupid. I do not think that my life will become better via magic spells. I think that an education is going to get me through my slightly moody childhood. Also, when I was six, I tried Wingardium Leviosa. It didn't work (of course) and guess what? I didn't commit suicide! You see, although I was still a total idiot back then, who was fuzzier with the distinction, I was grown-up enough to not think my life is in ruins, because a thing I read in a book is fictional.
#4: That brings me to another point: FICTIONAL. And FOR ALL RACES. See, JK wasn't narrow-minded, I mean, come on, she wanted to write a book for children. And if one little boy in Iraq, who has seen his house bombed by your troops, his family killed in front of his eyes, blown to a million pieces, and then, by miracle, this charity organization trundles in with books and food and shelter, the boy takes a copy of Harry Potter for Iraqi people... and Harry prays to God. Since the boy is Islamic, he is devastated that he cannot relate to this character any more, and cries himself to sleep. (P.S This narrative is FICTIONAL, but probably did happen apart from the Harry Potter part.)
#5: Reading your comments works. Please do this.
#6: Okay, I am confused. If Harry snogs a girl, oh God it's EVIL and sex, but if David sleeps with Bathsheba, then oh well, better give the Bible to our kids. You are very sick-minded, and if Harry never comes into any contact with one of female persuasion, or into any thoughts about his best friend Ron (not that I have anything against gays), and lives a hermit life praying to God while Voldy kills the population of Britain, you get much less readers. So there's some kissing. So what?

Thank you for reading. By the way, I do not like Harry Potter much, I am atheist, and you really shouldn't act like a buffoon.

So I'm pretty sure that the guy saying JK stood for 'Jesus Killer' was bein' sarcastic. Yeah, you guys really picked up on that.

Extremist Christians, Extremist Purebloods. Your head-in-ass veiws are even expressed in the HP series. Anyone that thinks one class of person is better than another is a person to be despised and looked down on.

By the way, I've just finished cutting my throat after doing a naked dance with my wand around a bonfire to please my eeeeeevil harry potter gods... Crukshanks and Dobby.

Praaaaise be! Hallelujah! Dobby has risen again!

P.S.
Original Sin is horseshit.

Thank you for spreading lies and fostering fear and hatred. It really does help normal and rational people see just how EVIL and dangerous the Republicans, right-wing fanatics and religious fundamentalists truly are. Your hatred of anything that does not fit inside your shallow, narrow little world-view is the same mind-set that allowed people to blindly accept the Papist Inquisition, the Salem Witch Burnings, and the Holocaust. It’s a slippery slope that starts with banning books, to burning them, to slandering and persecuting the author.

Based on what little you mention in your synopsis, you haven’t even read the series. Anyone who condemns without first learning what they are condemning seems to me to be a perfect example of the word “Fool”.

You also quote allegedly from one boy in Atlanta, who talks of suicide. Should you ever bother to look, you would be alarmed to find out how many suicides have been carried out over the centuries in the name of “God”.

Turn the other cheek, and stop casting stones, you hypocrite.

You mentioned this particular boy,

“I’m a true example of how Harry Potter books can open your life to witchcraft,” said Jordan Susch, an Atlanta boy who was addicted to the Harry Potter novels. “We wanted to know if spells, potions and curses worked. By the seventh grade, I was so depressed, I set a date to kill myself,”.

For one thing, if a person is so naïve and gullible to do something like this, then they are not mature enough to read it and it is entirely their fault for reading something they cannot handle. No one is forcing them to read this amazing book which has inspired millions of people, including Christians to read and adore. Also, if they get depressed enough to kill themselves just because a little magic is not working or whatever, then they is something clinically wrong with them, an imbalance of brain chemicals or something else which is not spurred by Harry Potter since Harry Potter is not a brain chemical that makes you do things without thinking.

How is it an occult, according to a dictionary meaning, occult means a blind devotion/religion to one being. So, even though Harry Potter and his friends follow Dumbledore, others follow Lord Voldemort, that is more than one being, and if I remember correctly, Harry Potter disagrees with a lot of things that Dumbledore has to say. If it was an occult, he would have just said, “Yes master, whatever pleases you”, etc.

Again, he does not ask for god’s help because e is not mentioned because J.K. Rowling is a very considerate person and does not wish to strike controversy but to try and make every one happy. But she is failing because some bigots just have to strike an argument about something.

Here you say,

The Harry Potter books are not actually manuals of witchcraft, but they strongly suggest that any problem can be solved by casting spells.

How do you go about proving that theory? If you have actually red the books, (which I have at least five times for each book) then you would realize that it has a lot of moral quality about how love conquers everything including evil and that was what Dumbledore has been trying to tell Harry Potter all along.
Love has nothing to do with witchcraft, and I hope I am not wrong because love is a strong and pure emotion.

No where in the book does it remark anything about Satanism which mainly is not about witchcraft, that is Wiccan which has its light (good) site and its dark (not-so-good) side. Please, before you post something like this again, do some proper research. You cannot write a thesis without proper research because there is not real argument behind it.

You cannot write a thesis without proper research because there is not real argument behind it.

for those of you who are to afraid to look into satanism heres a small hint about what they actually do!

DO'S AND DONT'S OF SATANISM

DO back unto others as they have done unto you

DONT KILL BABIES AND ANIMALS

DO GIVE KINDNESS TO THOSE WHO DESERVE IT

If you are walking into open territory and someone bugs you tell them to stop if they don't destroy them
- Antone LeVay

Satanists do not worship satan despite what bigoted mis informed media or fanatics say What they recongnize as satan is the Instincts in man that of which have been looked on as " un moral" and " savage" such as lust, revenge, anger, and cruelty.

There is no good and evil, just those that think there is and inmply that their own opinion is always right
