To sum it up for you, it is because of narrow minded people like yourself that obviously think that you’re God’s gift to the planet.

And, as with many other posts on this blog, you have not checked your facts. Not many Americans are attacked in European streets because they are American. The fact is that some American tourists have painfully little respect for the country they are visiting, which they foolishly enough decides to share with their surroundings. If I was to stand in the middle of no-where USA and scream out my dislike for the country I probably would have gotten some good beating to.

This, however is only a small minority. Most americans differ (hopefully) from your thoughts.

Europe is a continent with many nationalities and countries. Those nationalities and countries differ a lot, and we have our inner quabbles as well as our own identity. I did not agree with the decision of the US to go along with the attack on Iraq, but when it did start, I half-heartedly supported it since I had no other choice. Sadly my country (the Netherlands) had been dragged into it by that stupid alliance.

I was more pissed off by an American decree that stated that they had the authority (which they themselves approved, yet no other country agrees with) to invade the Netherlands and free any and all Americans put on trial in the international court.

You think we’re weak? You think Europe is an easy target? Just as a warning, and as a heads up, when Europe as a whole is attacked, the whole of Europe will rise up and stand against the aggressor. If it’s America, then it’s not a very good place for America to be in. The Dutch army is not as strong as the American, granted. But that’s mostly due to manpower, not due to quality. But think of the following: the Dutch, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Danish, and every other country’s armies together.

You don’t stand a chance.

Bring it on. America isn’t God’s gift to man – life is. Your country consists of a plethora of alien entities placed on the land of those who belong there (and those people now reside in “lovely” reservations rather than be able to live their life the way they’d want to, on THEIR land). Your country is as European as it gets. Your entire cultural heritage comes from Europe.

And if you want European people to stop hating the US, start with yourself. If you want to live in peace, with your own countrymen and those not in America, don’t insult them. There are always critics, hell, there’s more than enough Americans whining about the Netherlands, but does that make me hate the US? Heeeeelll no.

I’m sure it’s pretty. I’ve been invited to come visit Oregon, Indianapolis, New York and Seattle by people I’ve known over internet for over 6 years. I’ve talked to them about American/Dutch culture, and American/Dutch life. Amazingly enough, most agree that life in the Netherlands seems better.

So, you, or maybe some people you know, have been “beaten up in the streets” as you put it over here. I don’t know if you’re capable of reasoning this far, so I’ll explain it to you very simply: Ordinary, normal people do not prowl the streets looking for people to beat on. The people who do are called criminals. Muggers, rapists, or just plain brainless thugs. You have them in America too. Of course, the chances are that some people will harbour racist thoughts and hatred toward a specific group- or multiple groups- of people, like, for example, your people- North Americans. However, to the majority of society that is an entirely unacceptable mindset. Also, in your country, there are organisations such as the KKK, trying to drag you back into the dark ages of racial segregation- and they seem to share a fair amount of common ground with your views- surely, if you want to combat racism and hatred you would do better to help remove such flaws from within your own country.

I’m afraid I can’t keep totally polite, talking about some of your more… extreme statements and comments.

First, you encourage other N. Americans to cut their ties with European relatives and ancestors. This is, frankly, a ridiculous idea. Only in the most unfortunate circumstances would most people wish to cut connections to their families, and I doubt that living in different countries is going to matter to most in terms of staying in touch as far as is possible. And why would one wish to forget ones roots? We all stand on the shoulders of those who went before. Also, not all of you imported Americans are from Europe- they are from all over the world. Furthermore, a case study for you. My aunt was born in Newcastle, England. However, she has now lived in Florida for years, and is officially American. How, in your eyes, do people like her, who crossed the pond in the last few generations, fit into the picture? That before, they were evil Europeans, but now they’re Americans- the ?bermenschen?

Now, you are a Christian. I have neither knowledge nor concern of which subsect you belong to (I’m not religious myself, so don’t you DARE be so condescending as to “pray for my deliverance” or tell me I’m a sinner), but in any case, I’m afraid that all the most important Christian places and artefacts- indeed, the religion itself- are firmly rooted in Europe and the Middle East. Not America. If you think “America is far superior anything there is, was or will ever be on this planet”, and all others are “small, ugly piss-countries”, then you are denying your own faith it’s history.

Invade? What you’re talking about there is an unprovoked attack on a large number of allied or neutral countries. Anyway, isn’t the purpose of politics and so forth to improve understanding and eliminate the need for war? Which is better, talking over a problem as sensibly as is possible, or violence and death? God is, according to most Christians, and the Bible, basically about peace. Love thy neighbor and thy enemy and all that. But down the centuries, Christian people have still gone to war with a religious backing. Isn’t it time to break the cycle and start practising as you preach?

One final question, that has always bugged and puzzled me about people like you. It’s not strictly related to the article, but no time like the present to pose it- you say you want freedom, equality, peace etc, yet you hate communism- which is, in theory, the perfect way to run an economy to ensure veryone has equal rights and access to food and water. Where everyone is equal. True communism seems impossible, it is an ideal- unreachable, perhaps forever- but it is an ideal nontheless. I know that no country has successfully implemeted true communism in their economy, and such massive failures such as the Marxist government have occurred, but why are you so opposed to the idea itself?

And one last thing: You took God’s name in vain near the end of your article, breaking one of your ten commandments.
