Europe : Friend or Foe?
What is the role of Europe in the modern world? Do they have a role? Could they have? What are they doing and what are not?
Sure as hell they are not supporting us in our efforts to get rid of the terrorists. They like to enjoy the freedoms but don’t want to do anything for it. They are even unable to defend themselves. Look at the trouble France hat in Paris. They could not even stop the riots in there own backyard. It took over two weeks until it stopped. Well, it is another approach to the subject, right? Just sit and wait until the rioters are exhausted.. Truly pathetic.
We helped UK to win the war against the Nazis and that is how they thank us? Disgraceful. Without the American intervention the Nazis would have probably won the 2nd world war. How can this be? How can they be so selfish? Especially because we don’t ask for a favor, we all, the civilized world is threatened by the terrorist killers and they do nothing to help us? We end up sacrificing now over 2100 of our soldiers and billions of dollars for the good of the world and they do NOTHING?
Can somebody please tell me what is going on? When did the Europeans lose their spine?

Have you even been to Europe? I have and I can understand their point of view. As far as the riots in Paris are concerned, you’re partially correct that they decided to wait until the rioters were exhausted. Europeans value life more than material possessions, so as long as the rioters weren’t killing anyone, they were content to let them express their anger. Cars can be replaced and buildings can be repaired or rebuilt.
Europeans are smart enough to realize that a war in Iraq as a response to the attacks of September 11, 2001 is as ridiculous as attacking Mexico as a response to the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Saddam Hussein and the Iraqi people had NOTHING to do with 9/11.
Osama bin Ladin is still alive and well, over four years later. The war in Iraq is just wasting time, money and military resources that should be used to deliver justice to our attackers, rather than injustice to innocent civilians.
Europe has converted at least 3 dictatorships to democracy without firing a single shot, or killing a single person.
Greece, Spain and Portugal are all now integrated into the EU and established democracies.
The way to convince and lead is by example, not by force. Who could be convinced of anything the US government says today. They appear to have lied about almost everything of significance in the last 4 years.
The EU has been responsible in the past 30 years for converting 3 dictatorships to democracy.
Spain, Greece and Portugal were all dictatorships in the 70′s. They were convinced that their future lay within the EU, and these countries gradually introduced democracy and EU legislation to qualify for membership.
No one was killed, not a single shot was fired. Quite a contrast to Iraq and Vietnam.
Europeans are smart, and their politicians are elected by systems that are signficantly more sensitive to public opinion than the US system. Thus they need to pay much closer attention to their citizens than US politicians do.
Given that 70-80% of Europeans where vocally against participation in the Iraq war, the governments had no choice but to turn Bush down.
Thats the affect of … whaddy call it … oh yeah … DEMOCRACY.
Well. You can’t really compare Europe and America this way.
Fact is that we saved their ass and they are kicking our ass now, when we try to solve the problems of the world.

Rick, you saved our ass after sitting on the sidelines and waiting until all of Europe was occupied by a raving lunatic. Then when the actual survival of the US was threatened you intervened and bailed us all (yourselves included) out.
We Europeans on the other hand are intervening politically much earlier in the fascist spin cycle. That is to say, PRIOR to the US becoming a one party republican mock democracy.
In fact we are not kicking your ass at all, but returning the favour of 60 years ago. We don’t hate americans, we are the guys who actually care!!!

When the Nazis came to take over France they just gave up and pu tup the white flag and drank expresso while they waited for America to save there ass!!!

I hate to tell you this but O’Reilly’s so called “embargo” against France hasn’t done anything to their economy. Infact their economy has grown since he announced his embargo. O’Reilly said he learned of the embargo working through the Paris business review, when he was put on the spot and asked where he learned it from. Research showed no magazine existed. You really gonna listen to a guy who thinks he can crush countries by saying he will embargo them? As for the French sure I think they have a surrender cowardly reputation, but I dare not even say that of the British, Poles, Russians, and many other countries. Every country has its high point in history and untill Bush got in power we were one of the most repected countries ever. Now nothing we say is trusted. (and why should it be when we assured the world we were threatened cause of WMDs and they had none) I remember I was in the Marine Corps when we went over there and I said to myself no way the President could be lying on this and if he is we will have egg on our face and when we are proven right the rest of the world will have egg on their face. Guess the rest of the world won that.
I think you’ll find that the german army was in retreat and losing the war on the russian, african and southern-european front, aided by the english – before the US turned up. And a lot of lives were sacrificed to get to that stage before the americans turned up out of self-interest. So don’t ever disrespect those lost lives and people in concentration camps out of your total and utter ignorance.

No offence, but the USA’s contribution to the war in Europe was minimal at best – the war was on on the eastern front, where 35 million Russian soldiers and civillians died to defeat the Germans.

As a European (English to be exact, but we’re all the same lowlifes, let’s be honest), I am appalled by the shamefully blasphemous behaviour of my compatriots.
Our streets are breeding grounds for all nature of unholy acts. Homosexualists blatantly mince on our streets with their disgraceful bottoms on show. Blacks and other foreigners go un-executed. Non-Christians are even allowed to have jobs. Some of my countrymen tolerate this disgraceful behaviour, I say “America! Haul your lardy overweight ignorant bigoted hateful superiority-complex-addled badly-educated arse over here and liberate us from ourselves!” We need razing to the ground with your excessive nuclear arsenal and repopulating with redneck white trash XXXL babies. A friend of mine died last week fighting in Iraq. My brother is fighting in Afghanistan. I am British. So many other European countries, and countries around the world have sent their troops to support the US in Iraq.
You complain so much about these countries being ungrateful to America for events more than 50 years ago and yet completely disregard their help, support and lives now.
Yes, we have vocal press against the war in Iraq and American foreign policy, we also have very vocal press supporting the war in Iraq and America. It’s called a free press.

I feel I must point out that you do not even have your own language, but use ours, English. We do not particularly mind this even though you show very limited command of it. After all, having been top nation, or there-abouts for about 500 years we can afford to be generous to you young upstarts.
Start getting used to playing a minor role in future when the new economies of China and India take over. The British are adapting to this situation as we always do, but I am concerned that American attitudes will not allow them the same advantage.

Just an example for your great fund of knowledge – even american history seems to be a big challenge for your brain. Is that the way you think american should know their own history? If I may give you a hint: The forces that attacked Pearl Harbour – well – they weren’t even european – make a guess: Who attacked Pearl harbour? If you don’t know, consult a book of american history :-)
